| Journalist Roy Reed, who covered civil rights movement, dies Roy Reed reported on the civil rights movement during the 1960s for the New York Times and in 1965 witnessed what became known as "Bloody Sunday" when police and others beat black marchers in Selma, Alabama. Reed earlier worked for the Joplin Globe in Missouri and for the Arkansas Gazette.
